Froch rules out Ward rematch

Carl Froch has ruled out a rematch with Andre Ward as he continues to consider his future following his spectacular knockout victory over George Groves at Wembley.

Ward beat Froch via unanimous decision in December 2011, but Froch has his eyes on securing a money-spinning Las Vegas bout against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Earlier this week, Froch's hopes were boosted with Chavez Jr confirming his interest in a potential mega-fight.

"The reason that Andre Ward is never chucked in the mix [for his next fight] is because the American TV broadcasters aren't really excited about him," Froch told Sky Sports News. "He's going through a big promotional dispute at the minute.

"He's a very, very good fighter and he beat me fair and square, he outpointed me. But he's messy, he's up close, he's awkward. He really is a bit of a spoiler. He's not somebody I'd be excited about getting in the ring with.

"Someone like Chavez Jr will come and fight, and give me the fight I want and what the crowd wants. The television broadcasters could get on board and it would be more lucrative."

Froch again reiterated that he could opt to retire and will make a decision after taking the summer off, but also insisted he has plenty left in the tank.

"There is a time for everyone but I'm 36, I'm not 46," Froch added. "If you look at [Juan Manuel] Marquez, he's 40 years old. Bernard Hopkins is 49 going on 50.

"I'm 36 and I'm very young for my age. I don't take much punishment, contrary to popular belief that I just stand there and take punches for the sake of it.

"The other option is to retire. The choice is totally mine. But I won't be making that choice until I've had the summer off."
