Mayweather still searching for next opponent

Floyd Mayweather Jr has yet to find an opponent for his next fight on September 13.

Amir Khan had been touted as the man the undefeated American would next take on, but with Khan fulfilling religious duties for Ramadan and unlikely to fight again until the end of the year, the Briton has been ruled out as an opponent for the welterweight.

Mayweather Jr is unbeaten in 46 career fights and defeated Marcos Rene Maidana in May, but the search for his next challenger continues.

"Floyd will go again on September 13 as planned and we are looking at who he's going to fight and where the fight will take place," Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said.

"Las Vegas is Floyd's home and the MGM Grand is always the leading candidate to stage his fights."

Khan insists he will fight Mayweather Jr in the future - but has finally welcomed the prospect of a bout against Kell Brook in the meantime.

Khan and Brook do not see eye to eye and Khan has told Toe 2 Toe podcast that their rivalry could be similar to that George Groves had with Carl Froch.

Khan had previously said Brook did not deserve to fight him because he was just after money.

But Khan appears to have changed his tune, saying: "It can definitely [be similar]. Non-boxing fans are still tuning in and watching the fights here. That's what we want.

"We want to get the whole audience involved and watching the fights, it's looking good for boxing. The numbers are getting bigger and bigger. There are big fights for me in the future. A fight like that in the UK would be massive because we've got two guys who have that rivalry.

"We're not friends but we've sparred each other. He says he got the better of me, but I know I got the better of him and he knows that deep down, but he still won't admit it."
