Kell Brook says he is looking to get back in the ring in February after being stabbed while on holiday last month.

Brook's leg was injured in the unprovoked attack in Tenerife just weeks after beating Shawn Porter in California to take the American's IBF welterweight crown.

The 28-year-old's first defence of the title was due to be on December 6, with a fight against fellow Englishman Amir Khan touted for next summer.

  • Kell Brook told Steve Bunce how he felt "unbeatable" ahead of his IBF welterweight world title fight with Shawn Porter.
  • "I was sat in the changing room and there was a different kind of feeling in the air," he explained. "I knew that this was it; this was make or break. I knew I was in the best shape of my life and I knew it was my time.
  • "So walking out there, every step I took I felt more and more confident and when I got in the ring I felt unbeatable. And you know what happened."
  • He added: "It's been a long road but we did eventually get there. I've had another hiccup but I am the world champion and, with Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, I'm in good company.
  • "I've proved that I'm a world-class fighter and I'm ready to be involved in some big fights now."

But speaking to ESPN's Steve Bunce, Brook revealed "everything is moving in the right way" in his recovery as he targets his next fight for early 2015.

"I've just started back in the gym and I'm doing physio every other day," he told Buncey's Boxing Podcast. "We're getting there now.

"The doctors have told me that once I get back from rehab I'll be brand new - as good as ever.

"I'm thinking we will be ready to go for late February next year where we jump back in the ring and defend my world title."

Brook also revealed the person who stabbed him is "still on the run", before telling Bunce his feelings immediately following the attack.

"As soon as I woke up in hospital and for a few days after I didn't know what would happen," he said. "So you can imagine how I felt.

"I'd just won a world title and not knowing what's going on. It was horrible.

"I was away after winning the world title on a nice chilled out holiday with my girlfriend and my daughter - and next thing I'm getting stabbed.

"It was unbelievable. Two days after I was meant to get back and into training for the December 6 fight - and I was lying there with my leg cut in half.

"The fact is, though, I'm the world champion. And if we do go back to that day - a hell of a lot of people had written me off.

"But going over to the champion's back yard and beating him, I was just walking round California, skipping along and pinching myself. Unbelievable."
