George Groves believes Gennady Golovkin should drop down to the light-middleweight division - and take on fellow undefeated world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Golovkin now holds the IBO, WBC interim and WBA super middleweight belts having extended his unbeaten record to 31 victories and 28 knockouts with a second-round stoppage of Marco Antonio Rubio on Sunday.

Defeating Rubio in California on Sunday was Golovkin's 12th defence of his world title, while the victory also raised his knockout percentage to the best among active titleholders at 90.3%.

Groves, the European super-middleweight champion, has sparred and trained with Golovkin before and believes there is not much left for "GGG" to obtain at his current weight.

"I'd love to see it," Groves told Sky Sports when asked about the idea of Golovkin fighting Mayweather Jr. "When I went out to train with him and hazarded a guess, it would've been that he goes down, rather than up - and maybe there are bigger fights if he moves down.

"There's [Miguel] Cotto, [Saúl] Alvarez and Mayweather or [Manny] Pacquiao ... so many names in and around the light-middleweight division and so many great fights that can be made."
