British bantamweight Paul Butler overcame Ismael Garnica with a 10-round decision at Liverpool's Echo Arena.

Referee Mark Lyson turned in a 100-91 scorecard in favour of the Briton, who takes his tally of professional victories to 17 without defeat.

Butler had Garnica wobbling as early as the third round after landing a heavy left-hook on the Mexican's temple and the home-favourite continued to look lively as the fight drew on.

To his credit, Garnica did well to withstand a late Butler onslaught, but the Mexico City fighter could do little more than absorb the punches as Butler marched to what was an inevitable victory.

"He was as tough as they come, and the toughest I've boxed," Butler said. "He wouldn't go down.

"It's been hard to stay focused. I've got to stay professional and hopefully Tete will come off in February or March"
