Amir Khan is seeking a £6 million pay day to fight Floyd Mayweather but he will receive just over £600,000 for his bout against Devon Alexander at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Indeed, Khan's purse will pale in comparison to that picked up by Mayweather at the same venue in September, when he was guaranteed a $32m (£20m) payout for his rematch against Marcos Maidana, who is said to have received $5m (£3.1m).

Mayweather also infamously posted an image on his Instagram account earlier this year showing off two cheques totalling $72m (£45m) from his first fight against Maidana and his win over Saul Alvarez in 2013.

The payout that Khan will receive is also dwarfed by the £8m Carl Froch is reported to have taken home from his rematch in May against George Groves, who picked up £2m himself.

Khan's will not even be the biggest pay day in Vegas that weekend, with Timothy Bradley Jr making twice as much with a $2m (£1.2m) purse over at the Cosmopolitan for his headline fight against Diego Chaves, who will collect just $35,000 (£22,000).

Still, at least Khan will be picking up more than his opponent at the MGM Grand, with Alexander making $600,000 (£80,000) for their main event, which is in essence an eliminator for a possible shot at Mayweather.
