Amir Khan looks set to defend his WBA light-welterweight title against hard-hitting Argentinian Marcos Maidana on December 11, after the Bolton-born fighter confirmed terms have been agreed.

Khan has not fought since beating Paulie Malignaggi in New York on his American debut in May. But following weeks of rumours on the internet, the 23-year-old let his fans know the fight has been finalised via Twitter.

"All the legality work for the next fight has been done," he said. "The fight has been signed by both parties."

Many will remember Khan's savage knockout at the hands of Breidis Prescott two years ago. After losing his unbeaten record, Khan has avoided big-punching opponents but Maidana is likely to give Khan's chin a stern test.

The challenger has claimed 27 of his 29 wins by stoppage and, with the fight likely to take place in Las Vegas, Khan will not be able to rely on home comforts in what is considered to be his toughest fight to date.
