Manny Pacquiao claimed his eighth world title with a comprehensive victory over Antonio Margarito in Texas.

Margarito, making his first appearance in the ring after serving a suspension for illegal handwraps, was outclassed over 12 rounds as the Filipino claimed the WBC light-middleweight belt.

Despite his size and weight advantage, the Mexican had no answer to Pacquiao's relentless attack as he established a commanding lead.

Margarito's eye was cut and badly swollen, but the referee allowed the fight to continue, and although he did manage to land some punches in the middle section of the fight, the pace of Pacquiao was too much, and the Filipino coasted through the closing stages, with the judges scoring the fight 120-108, 118-110 and 119-109.

Calls will now be revived for Pacquiao to agree to showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr, but he insisted he would be happy to retire without facing the American.

"If it happens it happens. If not then I'm okay," he said."I really don't need him. I'm really satisfied with what I've done in boxing, with my achievements. If it happens it's good for all of us who love boxing."
