Shane Mosley has revealed he and Manny Pacquiao are close to sealing talks over a potential May 7 showdown.

Pacquiao's camp has once again failed to make any headway with Floyd Mayweather Jnr, so Mosley now appears set for his chance to knock the Pacman out of his stride.

At 39 years of age Mosley, a three-weight former world champion, would be considered the heavy underdog against the lightening fast hands of Pacquiao, who has won world titles at eight different weights. Mosley's recent record isn't great either, with two defeats in his last five bouts, but he revealed talks are at an advanced stage.

"We've already discussed the fight about three, four weeks ago, so now we'll go over it again," Mosley said in the Los Angeles Times. "Both sides just need to commit to what we've talked about and then I think we're done."

Meanwhile, WBC light-heavyweight champion Jean Pascal is on course to fight Chad Dawson in his next bout, rather than rematching Bernard Hopkins. Pascal retained his title after a draw with Hopkins at the weekend.

A beaten Hopkins said after the loss: "I know I won that fight. I'm sure he's still hanging his head to think he let a 45-year old man beat him up the way I did. If I were him, I would want to redeem myself and my reputation immediately."

However, Dawson is the mandatory challenger, so Pascal is contractually obliged to face the American.
