Manny Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, has accused Shane Mosley of never leaving survival mode in his WBO welterweight title fight against the Filipino in Las Vegas.

Although Mosley maintained his proud record of having never been stopped, he never looked like winning the fight, instead showing a reluctance to trade with his opponent, who claimed a wide points decision.

Pacquiao's victory means that Mosley, 39, has lost two of his last three fights - the other defeat coming against Floyd Mayweather Jnr - and drawn one, against the unremarkable Sergio Mora.

Now Roach has called on Mosley, clearly a fading force at the highest level, to bring the curtain down on his storied career, which is sure to yield a place in boxing's hall of fame.

"I don't think he tried to win the fight, I think he just tried to survive," said Roach. "When you get to that point in boxing I think it's time to [retire]."
