Jenson Button is hoping to solve his car's issues in the final session of practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix but admits the McLaren's lack of top speed at Interlagos could be an issue.

Button completed just one lap in first practice due to an ERS issue and then finished the second session in 16th and off the pace. He is confident the set-up issues can be solved if final practice is dry, but admits the car's lack of straight-line speed is a concern.

"Tomorrow is going to be much cooler and probably raining, but it's important for us to get it right because Sunday is going to be dry even if qualifying is wet," he said. "We need a dry FP3 because at the moment we're nowhere! But we know the reasons why we are not competitive and we can easily put them right.

"I think the only thing that we find quite strange is that our straight-line speed is so far off. We are not running that different in downforce and we would struggle to match the others in speed - we'd have to take the wings off. I don't know why we are not very quick in a straight line, it's something we need to solve over night because we are losing a lot of time on the straights."

Button is confident the car is capable of more.

If we are where we are now it won't be very good, but the car is definitely better than this. We have to get the maximum from what we have and we haven't done that because we tried a number of things on the car and some ideas for the future and to try to rid of a few of the issues that we had. They haven't worked, but we'll go back.
