Alonso proud regardless of title outcome

Fernando Alonso says he will be proud of Ferrari's 2012 season no matter what happens in today's Brazilian Grand Prix.

Alonso goes in to the final race of the season with a 13-point deficit to Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and will start the race three places behind him on the grid. After starting the year with an uncompetitive car and struggling to match the pace of the Red Bull at recent races, he said he was proud just to be in the championship fight at the final race.

"I think the highest point is to be here, sitting here with a car that we are constantly eighth in the last races and we're still talking about a world championship fight," Alonso said on Saturday evening. "It is something that is not normal, so I'm very proud of this and of the achievements we had this year. If we had a normal season perhaps we'd have the points of someone similar with our cars and you'd say bye-bye to the championship in Monza or Singapore and you have very relaxed races in the last part of the championship as we had last year.

"But because we did something not normal by leading the championship, we find ourselves eighth on the grid and a lot of people think that tomorrow we have the chance to win the world championship because they trust so much in ourselves and in our jobs on Sunday. So this is the thing that makes me more proud and I will remember the season like this whatever happens tomorrow."
