Heikki Kovalainen will make another FP1 appearance for Caterham at this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix.

Having last driven for the team at Spa-Francorchamps in August, Kovalainen will take over Charles Pic's car for the opening practice session at Suzuka on Friday morning. It will be Kovalainen's fifth Friday practice outing for Caterham this season, having previously performed the role in Bahrain, Spain, Belgium and Italy.

Pic is the driver to lose out on track time having been hit by a 10-place grid penalty for this weekend's race after receiving his third reprimand of the season at the Korean Grand Prix.

Kovalainen has been linked with a return to a race seat with Caterham in 2014, with the team yet to confirm if it will retain either of its current drivers.
