Caterham has 'big potential' - Pic

Charles Pic believes Caterham has the potential to progress when he joins the team next season and is hoping the money he brings will help with car development.

Pic was announced as a Caterham driver for 2013 on Friday and will make the switch from fellow backmarkers Marussia at the end of this year. Asked if he thought it was a step forward rather than a sideways step, Pic said he felt Caterham has the potential to improve next year.

"I think there are very strong points at Caterham, like the Renault engine and they also have a big potential for the future," he said. "It's a young team and we will have to progress together next year but I think they have a big potential."

Pic has signed a multi-year deal and said that there had been a financial element that he hopes will help the team progress.

"They got maybe a little bit more capacity to work on the car and improve for the future," he said. "I think it's also a point that you have to take in to account for the future."

But Pic said it was too early to start making predictions about scoring his first points in Formula One next season.

"I don't want to give an objective right now because it will depend on many parameters that we don't know now. For sure for me the most important thing is that we need to progress and I'm sure we will progress. This will be the objective so we will work very hard during the winter and progress through the year."

Marussia currently leads Caterham in the constructors' championship by virtue of a 12th place finish at the Singapore Grand Prix. With extra prize money at stake for the team that finishes tenth in the constructors' championship, this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix could be pivotal for the two teams, but Pic said he was just focusing on his job at Marussia.

"For me this changes nothing," he added. "I'm still with Marussia for this race and I will give 100% of myself to give them the best result."
