The Ospreys are hoping for positive news on flanker Ben Lewis after he was hospitalised with an apparently serious neck injury following their victory over Aironi at the Liberty Stadium last weekend.

The openside was taken to Morriston Hospital on Saturday in order to undergo further tests on the injury, which caused him to be carried from the field on a spinal board.

Lewis has been unfortunate with injuries in his fledgling career, having suffered a broken leg and a serious knee injury in recent seasons.

"Given the symptoms, position and mechanism of the injury we adopted a safety first outlook that saw him taken from the field on a spinal board," Ospreys physio Chris Towers said.

"Although he was able to talk calmly to us and to move all four limbs, he has been taken to hospital for further examination and tests to establish if there is any underlying injury. We are now waiting to hear from the doctor, and will be in a better position to provide a further update on his condition over the course of the next few days."

Meanwhile, Ulster are awaiting further information on injuries suffered by flanker Stephen Ferris and prop BJ Botha in their draw with Connacht on Saturday. Ferris has injured his shoulder girdle while Botha is nursing a wrist problem. The Springbok tight-head was upbeat however, saying via his Twitter account: "Well tweeps it's good news for me this morning with only ligament damage, no break thank goodness!"
