Edinburgh have confirmed the signing of former Ospreys centre David Bishop on a three-month deal.
The 27-year-old, brother of Wales international Andrew, spent three seasons with the Ospreys as well as one with the Celtic Warriors before joining Sale for last season's Premiership campaign.
After a pre-season stint with the Dragons, Bishop has been added to the Edinburgh squad in time for their Heineken Cup kick-off against Cardiff Blues on Saturday.
"The move has the potential to be a real win-win situation, with me getting the chance to show what I can do and Edinburgh getting a bit more strength in depth in the backs," he said. "I'm happy to play wherever I'm picked, and will be pushing hard in training to earn selection."
Edinburgh coach Rob Moffat hopes that Bishop will be able to plug the gap left by injuries to Nick de Luca, Simon Webster and Andrew Easson. Alex Blair, John Houston and Andrew Turnbull are also missing from their armoury after being called up for the Scotland Sevens squad at the Commonwealth Games.
"David has been involved with a number of clubs at a high level, and we're happy to have that know-how on board," Moffat said. "Before making him an offer, I spoke to a number of people who've worked with him, and everything they had to say was positive. He's here to put his hand up, and I'm looking forward to him challenging the other guys in training."
