Munster are set to be without skipper Paul O'Connell for next weekend's Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final against Brive.

The Ireland lock had to be replaced six minutes into the second-half of Saturday night's Magners League win over Leinster after landing awkwardly on his ankle after jumping for a lineout.

O'Connell was in obvious agony as he left the field but, fortunately for both the player and his province, an x-ray carried out immediately after the game in Limerick revealed no fracture.

However, the full extent of the injury has yet to be established and O'Connell must now travel to Dublin on Monday for further medical examination.

Munster will be hoping that there is no ligament damage and that O'Connell will be fit to lead the province in Saturday's meeting with Brive at the Stade Municipal.
