Irish youngsters light up Magners League
September 15, 2008

Leinster and Munster both registered huge wins in the latest round of the Magners League, while the Scarlets stayed top with a big win over Connacht.

Leinster eased to a 52-6 win over Andy Robinson's hapless Edinburgh with a hat-trick from young Ireland wing Luke Fitzgerald and further scores from Shane Jennings, John Fogarty and Chris Keane.

Munster experienced similar joy against the visiting Dragons, with the impressive Keith Earls notching three scores in a 50-6 demolition at Musgrave Park.

Wing Doug Howlett and fly-half Paul Warwick both bagged braces for Munster, while the Dragons could only manage two penalties from full-back James Arlidge in response.

The Scarlets secured a huge 45-3 win over Connacht in their final league game at Stradey Park to go top of the table with an impressive 13 points from their opening three games.

Braces for full-back Morgan Stoddart and prop Deacon Manu set the Scarlets on their way to their third win of the new season and a fitting send off to the old ground.

Hot on their heels are the Ospreys, who secured a narrow 21-18 win away to Glasgow Warriors.

Glasgow fly-half Dan Parks broke the all time points record for the Magners League with two penalties and a conversion, but squandered five further chances in front of goal.

Tries from Alun-Wyn Jones and replacement Kristian Phillips were enough to see a much changed Ospreys side to their third win of the season.

Cardiff Blues scraped to their first win of the season over Ulster at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday night, with a late penalty from Ben Blair securing a 16-15 victory.

Young Blues wing Leigh Halfpenny had earlier cancelled out Ulster prop BJ Botha's try before Ireland scrum-half Isaac Boss' score sent the visitors into a 15-13 lead.

Blair held his nerve late on to snatch the points, but it was another stuttering performance from Dai Young's side.
