Cardiff Blues' Heineken Cup hopes have been dealt a blow by the news that All Black fullback Ben Blair will miss their remaining Pool games with Gloucester and Calvisano after fracturing a bone in his hand. Blair sustained the injury in a collision with Ospreys centre Sonny Parker during the Blues' 16-12 Magners league loss at the Arms Park on New Year's Eve. His hand is currently in a cast, and he is scheduled to see a specialist on Monday. The Blues are anticipating up to a four-week layoff for their front-line goal-kicker. Blair is currently in his third season with the Blues since joining from the Crusaders, and has been a popular and important fixture of the side in recent seasons. His goal kicking will be especially missed as the Blues go in pursuit of a quarter-final berth, with Nick Robinson and Leigh Halfpenny the alternatives. Blair, 29, won four caps for New Zealand between 2001 and 2002 before making the switch to the Welsh capital. © Scrum.com
