Edinburgh have suffered a double blow with the news that wing Mark Robertson and prop Ryan Grant will both undergo surgery on groin injuries on Tuesday.

Scotland A wing Robertson has been a fixture of the Edinburgh side this term, starting 11 games and scoring four tries before a recurrence of an old groin injury forced him onto the sidelines before the first derby match with Glasgow over Christmas.

Grant, 23, has been playing for Stirling County this season before suffering a similar injury requiring surgery. Both players are expected to return to action in February.

The news is particularly damaging considering the recent news that flanker Ross Rennie will be missing for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

"Both Mark and Ryan will have operations to repair lower abdominal injuries," Edinburgh head physiotherapist TJ Johansson said. "We felt the timing was right for the operations to take place and we expect them to back in about a month's time."
