Dan Scarbrough returned to competitive action earlier this week as he played 40 minutes for Newbury in a friendly against the Royal Navy.

Scarbrough has been ruled out for four months following knee ligament damage but the England international is now back in action and he even capped his guest appearance on Tuesday night with a try.

With Monday's Guinness A-League clash postponed and with it being several weeks before another fixture in the competition, the club's medical staff were keen to get Scarbrough a run out so he ended up featuring in the game at Monks Lane.

"I'm really excited to be back," he enthused. "I'm still a way off in terms of my fitness and sharpness, but it's great to get a run out and put those four months behind me.

"To be honest, I wasn't that bothered about my performance, it was more about testing the knee and building up some confidence. It went well as I was tested on every facet of the game. I made a tackle, got tackled, took a crash ball and had a few runs and side-steps.

"Now I need to work on my match sharpness and that will come by playing and full-on training sessions. Hopefully I'll be able to do a lot of training over the next few weeks and be able to put myself into contention for the Worcester game."

In other news ahead of Saracens Guinness Premiership clash against Bath at Vicarage Road on Sunday, kick off 1.30pm, both Chris Jack and Kevin Sorrell will be missing from the line-up.

Jack has briefly returned home for a long-standing family commitment and he will also return to England with his wife and baby who have remained in New Zealand while the second row looked for a house.

Also, centre Sorrell picked up an ankle injury in the victory at Glasgow last weekend that secured the North London club's place in the quarter-finals of the Heineken Cup. He is expected to be ruled out for three weeks.
