No. 1 ranking doesn't mean much - Trott

England batsman Jonathan Trott has played down the significance of the world No. 1 ranking ahead of the Test series against West Indies.

Andy Flower's men are expected to perform strongly over the coming weeks when they meet a West Indies outfit whose preparation has been disrupted by the recent rain in England.

The big test to England's supremacy will likely come against South Africa, currently ranked No. 2, later in the summer - but Trott has told his team-mates just to focus on winning the series, and the rest will take care of itself.

"There are a few teams who on the day could be No. 1," Trott told the Times. "It's a ranking, it doesn't mean that much. We play cricket to win Test series."

Meanwhile, England spinner Graeme Swann has told the batsmen to be wary of the threat offered by West Indies seamer Kemar Roach.

"[Roach is] one of a couple of genuine quicks who will get our boys hopping around the crease," Swann told the Sun. "He took 19 wickets in three Tests in the series against the Aussies and could be a real handful."
