Chris Woakes has been called up to the England squad ahead of the third one-day international against Australia on Wednesday.

With Stuart Meaker and Jade Dernbach released on compassionate grounds to attend Surrey team-mate Tom Maynard's funeral, Woakes has the chance to make his first appearance for the senior side since August 2011.

Maynard died aged 23 in an incident on a London Tube track on June 18. His funeral will take place in Wales.

Meaker was drafted into the squad prior to Sunday's win at The Oval as cover for the injured Anderson. There is still hope Anderson will recover from his groin strain for the rest of the five-match series but Warwickshire seamer Woakes is in contention for a place in the starting XI at Edgbaston.

All-rounder Samit Patel will be released to play for Nottinghamshire Outlaws in the Friends Life t20, before rejoining the England squad.

England currently lead the series 2-0, and they will climb to the top of the ODI rankings if they complete a 5-0 whitewash.
