England captain Alastair Cook has issued an upbeat bulletin on Steven Finn's injured thigh, but is unsure as to when the seamer will be fit.

Finn limped out of England's tour opener with India A after damaging a thigh just four overs in. The initial reports were not positive and he has been ruled out of the second game of the tour against Mumbai A which gets underway on Saturday.

The first Test with India begins on November 15 and in light of the scan, Cook is not ruling out Finn playing a part.

"We're not sure if he'll be fit, but the scans have come back better than we expected," Cook said with regard to Finn's injury.

The Indian wickets are set to pose a major test for the tourists and Cook admits England will need to be flexible in their approach.

He said: "We are going to have to adapt to each situation and each surface that we play. We are going to have to find the best balance, whether it is two spinners or three seamers.

"We have got to be flexible in selection to give us the best chance."
