A cricketer who claimed over £22,000 in disability benefits has been caught out by fraud investigators, who filmed him keeping wicket for his local side.

Stewart Lorains was claiming for diabetes, asthma and psoriatic arthropathy in 2008 but failed to notify the authorities after his condition improved a year later.

Lorains began turning out for Boosbeck in the Cleveland Cricket League before investigators filmed him bending over to pick up the ball and keeping wicket behind the stumps.

The 53-year-old grandfather pleaded guilty to failing to notify a change in his circumstances at a previous hearing and was handed a four-month jail sentence, which was suspended for a year, at Teesside Crown Court.
