Cook 'desperate' to remain England captain

Alastair Cook insists he is "desperate" to stay on as England captain when their dismal tour of Australia comes to an end.

After Australia wrapped up the one-day series with victory in Sydney, Cook hinted he could possibly step down.

England were also beaten 5-0 in the Test series, with Cook becoming only the third captain in his country's history to suffer an Ashes whitewash.

"That was quite an emotional time - we'd just lost another game," Cook said before the fourth ODI in Perth.

"I'm lucky enough to do this job. I'm desperate to carry on now."

Cook, the Test and one-day captain, has received the backing of the ECB, while teammate Ravi Bopara this week described him as "the best man for the job".

Team director Andy Flower will review the tour with Cook when England return home following the final ODI in Adelaide on Sunday.

England avoided matching their biggest losing streak of 10 games, set in both 1993 and 2001, with victory on Friday.
