England retained the Women's Ashes in the first Twenty20 in Hobart after captain Charlotte Edwards hit a brilliant, unbeaten 92 as her side cruised to a nine-wicket victory.

Edwards, who made her runs from 59 deliveries with 13 fours and a six, added 114 in 13 overs with Sarah Taylor to make what had appeared a competitive Australia total look well short.

The victory gives England an unbeatable 10-4 lead in the points-based series after Australia had closed the gap by claiming the one-day series 2-1. England earlier won the one-off Test, securing a significant six-point advantage.

Edwards hit the winning boundary off Erin Osborne with 13 deliveries to spare having controlled the chase from start to finish. She never allowed the required rate to reach eight an over and by the time she launched Jess Cameron for six England were well on track.
