Kevin Pietersen has been bought for £880,000 by the Delhi Daredevils at the Indian Premier League auction in Bangalore.

Following his enforced exit from the England set-up, Pietersen is available for the full tournament this year. He had played for the Daredevils last season but the side initially chose not to retain his services after expecting him to be busy with international commitments.

A total of 154 players are up for sale for the IPL's seventh edition. Pietersen's fee was dwarfed by that of India's Yuvraj Singh who went for £1.37 million to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Other star names to go in the first round include England's Ashes tormentor Mitchell Johnson, who went for £640,000 to Kings XI Punjab, and his compatriot David Warner, who was bought for £540,000 by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

South Africa's Jacques Kallis went to Kolkata Knight Riders for £540,000 while India's Virender Sehwag joins Johnson at Kings XI Punjab having been signed for £310,000.

Each franchise has a spending cap of £5.87m. The current record for a single player was set in 2011 when Gautam Gambhir, the India batsman, went for £1.47m.

The IPL starts in April.
