Stuart Broad has rubbished the notion he might have contemplated becoming England's Test captain, insisting he is "100%" behind Alastair Cook despite the dismal tour Down Under.

The ECB have given their public backing to Cook, who is under pressure after a tour that saw England whitewashed 5-0 in the Ashes and comfortably beaten in both the ODI and T20 series.

Cook has also courted criticism after a public statement from the ECB last week insisted Kevin Pietersen was axed from the England set-up because he could not be trusted to give his full support to his former captain.

"I really enjoy the captaincy stuff but I'm 100% behind Cook as a skipper," T20 captain Broad said on Monday at Trent Bridge. "I enjoy playing under him.

"I'd be surprised if Cooky copped any stick, he's our highest scorer of Test hundreds at the age of 29.

"One thing is for sure: his only goal is for England to win cricket games and to improve so they can keep winning. His decisions are based on the best for England cricket and not the best for Alastair Cook.

"People like him are the sort of guys you want in your team. He's passionate and he genuinely wants England to win. That's the only reason he makes tough calls."
