Matt Prior, who was dropped for England's final two tests in the disastrous 5-0 Ashes whitewash in Australia, hit the first century of the new County Championship season for Sussex at Hove.

On day three of his side's opening match with Middlesex, Prior reached three figures in the final over before lunch, before he eventually fell to England team-mate Steven Finn for 125 off 138 balls.

The 32-year-old brought up his century in fine fashion with successive boundaries off Middlesex bowler Toby Roland-Jones, reaching 102 from 112 balls at the crease. Prior's hundred included 17 fours and one six.

He was eventually dismissed, at the fourth attempt, when caught with Sussex on 253. During his innings, Prior went past 13,000 runs in first class cricket. It is his 28th first class hundred.
