Pietersen caught behind by Aussie police

England Ashes star Kevin Pietersen has been fined by Australian police after being caught speeding in a Lamborghini Shane Warne helped organise for his visit to Melbourne.

Pietersen was allowed to borrow the sports car from a showroom this week and bragged on Twitter about driving it along Victoria's scenic Great Ocean Road, posting pictures for his fans.

But on his return from the drive he was caught doing 121km/h in a 100km/h zone by Victorian police, who pulled Pietersen over and - perhaps with some enjoyment given Pietersen's key role in England's demolition of Australia in the second Ashes Test - issued a £149 fine and three demerit points on his license.

Pietersen said on Twitter on Wednesday, along with an image of the canary yellow Lamborghini: "Massive thanks to Lamborghini Melbourne & @warne888 for letting me play with this for a few days."

Earlier this year, British Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton was fined by Victorian police after performing a burnout on his way out of the carpark at the Melbourne Grand Prix.
