Springbok Tinus Linee dies after battle with MND

Former South Africa and Western Province centre Tinus Linee has died after suffering from motor neuron disease at the age of 45.

Linee, renowned as a ferocious tackler, played 112 matches for Western Province between 1992 and 2001 and made his Springbok debut in 1993 at the age of 23, going on to feature in nine tour matches in Australia, Wales, Scotland and Ireland without ever playing a Test. He was diagnosed with motor neuron disease last year.

Joost van der Westhuizen, scrum-half with the 1995 World Cup-winning Springbok side who was diagnosed with the incurable illness in 2011, offered his condolences.

Linee is survived by his wife Diana, her two sons and a daughter from his first marriage.
