Injured Schleck to miss Tour de France

Former Tour de France champion Andy Schleck has been ruled out of this year's race on account of a fractured pelvis.

Yellow jersey contender Schleck, the 2010 victor, crashed during the fourth stage time trial in the Criterium du Dauphine last week, and the injuries he sustained are worse than first feared.

An MRI scan is believed to have shown the RadioShack-Nissan rider, who was set to be one of Briton Bradley Wiggins' major rivals during the 98th edition - which begins in Belgium on June 30, suffered a broken vertebrae.

A specialist climber, Schleck has finished as the runner-up at the Tour de France three times - in 2009, 2010 and 2011 - and was later promoted to 2010 champion after the original winner, Alberto Contador, was found guilty of doping.
