Wiggins prepared to support Froome

Bradley Wiggins has insisted he would be happy to play second fiddle to Chris Froome at Team Sky next year.

Wiggins is on course to become the first Briton to win the Tour de France, although there are two punishing days in the Pyrenees ahead of the final stage into Paris on Sunday. Wiggins holds a lead of two minutes over his team-mate Froome, but the latter has looked the stronger in the mountains.

Froome set alarm bells ringing when powering away from Wiggins in a mountain stage, only to stand up on the peddles following a frantic conversation on the team radio. Froome has since given an interview calling for the team to back him next year in recognition of the work he has done for Wiggins during this year's race.

Wiggins has insisted his focus is on team success rather than personal glory and has claimed he will work as a domestique if Froome is handed the leader's jersey next year.

"Whatever happens, I am part of this team and want to be until the end of my career," Wiggins said. "It is about the team and the success of the team.

"Whatever the team is next year and whoever the leader might be, I will be there. I was given that role at the start of the year, took it on and have lived up to the expectations so far. That could change, but what is important is the team. I have always said it is not just about me."
