Spanish cycling Victor Cabedo, who rode for the Euskaltel Euskadi team, has been killed in a training ride.

The 23-year-old was involved in a collision with a vehicle on a public road north of Valencia. "Victor Cabedo has passed away after being knocked down," team physio Josu Larrazabal wrote on his Twitter feed. "A big hug for his family. Rest in peace."

Cabedo only turned professional last year and was in action in the Tour of Britain last week.

Vuelta a Espana winner Alberto Contador, competing at the Road World Championships in Netherlands, said: "From here I send my full support to his family, his friends and his team who will have been torn apart by this."
