Froome eyes leader's jersey in Tour

Chris Froome has hinted he could be the man to lead Team Sky at next year's Tour de France, having been denied the chance to bid for glory this year by team orders.

Bradley Wiggins became the first Brit to win the Tour de France this year, ably supported by Froome throughout the three-week race. Time and again during this year's Tour, Froome looked the stronger of the pair but reined himself in to support his team leader.

There could well be a role reversal next time, with Froome suggesting Wiggins could focus on the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Espana.

"I do not know yet if I will be able to ride two big Tours," Froome told L'Equipe. "I will only be able to seek one win and I have the Tour in mind.

"I think Bradley could be (the leader) on the Giro d'Italia and me on the Tour. But we still have to wait for next year's programmes and talk about this with the managers."

Reflecting on this year's Tour, Froome said: "I am still convinced that I could have won. But everything was clear within the team and I tried my best to do my job. I was not the chosen leader."
