The positive news for Bradley Wiggins has continued with confirmation he has scooped the Velo d'Or award.

The Velo d'Or is awarded to the best rider of the year, with French publication Velo Magazine conducting a poll of cycling journalists.

Wiggins, who won the Tour de France for the first time in 2012, beat off competition from Tom Boonen and Joaquin Rodriguez.

As well as winning the Tour, Wiggins also landed the Paris-Nice, Tour de Romandie, Criterium du Dauphine and the Olympic time trial.

The Velo d'Or comes on the same day that Wiggins was promoted to third place in the 2009 Tour de France following the disqualification of Lance Armstrong.
