Froome clinches Romandie victory
Team Sky rider Chris Froome underlined his status as the favourite for this year's Tour de France after clinching the Tour of Romandie on Sunday.
Froome, in control of the race prior to the closing time trial, wrapped matters up by finishing third in the closing stage - ultimately beating Katusha's Simon Spilak by 54 seconds in the overall standings.
Germany's Tony Martin, a renowned time trial specialist, won Sunday's stage - with Italy's Adriano Malori finishing ahead of Froome in second.
Froome, the runner-up in last year's Tour de France, is widely expected to lead Team Sky in the event this year - with the hilly nature of the 2013 route generally expected to favour him over team-mate Bradley Wiggins, the defending champion.
The winner of the Tour de Romandie has gone on to claim the Tour de France in each of the last two years - with Wiggins claiming the event in 2012 and Australian Cadel Evans triumphing 12 months before that.
Froome has also won the Tour of Oman and Criterium International in 2013.
