Froome wins Criterium Du Dauphine

Chris Froome will head into the Tour de France full of confidence after the Team Sky rider clinched victory at the Criterium Du Dauphine on Sunday.

Experiencing the first real instance of rain in the race, Froome successfully navigated the 155.5-kilometre ride to Risoul before breaking late from the peloton and finishing second behind stage winner Alessandro De Marchi.

Richie Porte, Froome's Team Sky team-mate, was beaten to third place by Andrew Talansky.

Several riders pulled out of the final stage - with the Tour de France obviously in mind - with the weather continuing to look imperious but Froome extended his season's good form ahead of the June 29 calendar showpiece.

Victory in the Dauphine adds to Froome's success at Tour of Oman, the Criterium International and the Tour of Romandie this season.

Porte made it a Team Sky one-two overall, finishing 58 seconds behind Froom with Katusha's Daniel Moreno over two minutes behind in third.
