Rowsell the golden girl in Manchester

Joanna Rowsell clinched her second gold medal at the Track World Cup in Manchester after winning the individual pursuit.

Rowsell, who won the team pursuit on the opening day of the tournament on Friday, posted a time of 3mins 34.904seconds, with Australia's Rebecca Wiasak finishing in second.

"It is better than I could have ever hoped for," Rowsell said on the triumph. "'I missed the World Championships on the track last season to focus on my road racing - I won the national (road time-trial) title and after that everything went wrong, it was just disaster after disaster, setback after setback.

''The second half of the road season was about getting fit for the track and that went completely out of the window. I have done no races since I broke my collarbone at the beginning of August. I'm just so pleased that I managed to get some fitness. To come here and win two gold medals, I'm absolutely over the moon. I've got a lot more to come this track season."

World champion Becky James secured bronze in the sprint, beating Olympic champion Anna Meares 2-0. Kate Archibald won bronze as well. Laura Trott meanwhile finished second in the omnium elimination race, and after three events has moved up to sixth in the standings with three races to go.
