Wiggins to compete in Tour of Flanders

Sir Bradley Wiggins will compete in the Tour of Flanders for the first time since 2005 as a replacement to injured Team Sky rider Ian Stannard.

Stannard broke a vertebra at Gent-Wevelgem last week and, as a result, has also been ruled out of the Paris-Roubaix race on April 13.

Wiggins comes in to replace Stannard for the 255km race on Sunday and will line up alongside fellow Brits Geraint Thomas and Luke Rowe.

The 33-year-old is expected to compete in the Paris-Roubaix and recently suggested this year's Tour de France, the race which he won in 2012, could be his last as he turns his attentions to the track at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

In February, Wiggins announced he will compete at this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which take place a week after Le Tour.
