Olympic and world road race champion Marianne Vos won the inaugural Women's Tour of Britain after she outsprinted Giorgia Bronzini in the event's final stage in Bury St Edmonds.

It marked the third successive stage win for Rabo Liv rider Vos, who finished 30 seconds ahead of Emma Johansson in the overall classification.

She began the day 19 seconds ahead of the Swede, but claimed an extra 10 bonus seconds for her sprint finish victory.

Two-time world junior champion Lucy Garner was the highest-placed Brit as she claimed seventh place overall, 50 seconds off Vos' final time of 12 hours 42 minutes seven seconds. Fellow Brit Hannah Barnes finished in eighth place with the same time as Garner.

Double Olympic track champion Laura Trott, who suffered a heavy crash during stage three of the race, finished 55th overall and crossed the line with her sister Emma, who is retiring. She was 13 minutes 59 seconds off winner Vos' overall time.

Lizzie Armistead, who started the day fourth in the classifications, withdrew before the start of the final stage following her struggle with illness.
