England's Joanna Rowsell added Commonwealth gold to her world title by defeating Australia's Annette Edmondson in the final of the 3000m individual pursuit.

Rowsell, who was part of the Great Britain squad that took team pursuit gold at London 2012, succeeded on British soil again as she defeated Edmondson by 3.835 seconds at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.

Hosts continue judo gold rush

  • Sarah Clark claimed Scotland's third judo gold medal in two days by taking the Under-63kg title in Glasgow.
  • The 36-year-old, who won silver in Manchester when judo was last in the Commonwealth Games, defeated Helene Wezeu Dombeu of Cameroon to add to the gold medals claimed by sisters Kimberley and Louise Renicks on Thursday.
  • It was a Home Nations clean sweep of the golds on Friday, with England winning the other three events. Megan Fletcher took the women's 70kg, while Danny Williams won the men's 73kg.
  • Owen Livesey beat Tom Reed in the all-English final of the men's 81kg event.

"It's been an amazing year, and this was the one I really wanted," said Rowsell, who won the world title in February.

"Outside of the Olympics this is the biggest individual event for me, and I'm absolutely over the moon. Conditions were a little bit slower than earlier, but I went up a gear for the race."

There was disappointment, however, for Jason Kenny who was defeated by New Zealander Sam Webster in the final of the individual sprint.

Kenny had to come through the repechage earlier on Friday to even reach the latter stages of the event, but despite levelling the final at one race win each, he was not close in the decider and had to settle for a second silver of the games, having also lost the team sprint final.

"I'm shattered," Kenny told the BBC afterwards. "I got a funny feeling, got a bit of cramp or something. I was throwing up a minute ago. I feel terrible."
