Froome remains in touch in Spain

Chris Froome remains in the hunt at the Tour of Spain after maintaining his 20-second gap behind leader Alejandro Valverde in stage eight.

There was no change in the general classification, with Valverde 15 seconds clear of Nairo Quintana. Alberto Contador is third, 18 seconds back, with Froome a further two behind.

Froome, who crashed during Friday's seventh stage, came through the longest stage of the race unscathed.

He said: "I'm just glad to get through that one and into the mountains tomorrow. We've still got a lot of racing to come and a lot of climbing to do. It's going to be a full-on race."

Frenchman Nacer Bouhanni, also victorious on stage two, won the stage.

"The last 50 kilometres were very, very long," he said. "It was a very fast pace

Sunday's ninth stage is 185km from Carboneras de Guadazon to Aramon Valdelinares.
