Phil Taylor collected the 16th nine-darter of his career after he won the opening group of the Championship League.

The 16-time champion of the world beat his protégé Adrian Lewis 6-2 in the final, but the Power surged to a 12th televised nine-darter in the league clash with Lewis, which he lost 6-5 and with the latter missing double 18 for a nine-darter of his own.

Both two-time world champion Lewis and Taylor won five of their seven league games and collided in the final, where it was Taylor who romped to victory.

"It's fantastic. I enjoy this tournament and especially today. I played steady darts and it was a tough challenge because I've not been practising as hard as I should do. I've taken a holiday and relaxed a bit, so I'm pleased," Taylor said, who recently won the inaugural Sydney Masters.

"Adrian played superbly and he missed double 18 for a nine-darter against me but his energy seemed to drop a little bit during the final. I got to 4-0 up and he started to come back at me, and he showed some class."
