Michael van Gerwen got the better of Adrian Lewis in a pulsating encounter to advance to the quarter-finals of the Players Championship Finals.

The pair have faced each other on numerous occasions this year, and with Lewis having the upper hand in the past few matches, it was Van Gerwen who emerged victorious to take six legs on the spin to win 9-6.

Lewis appeared to be running away with the tie when he led 6-3, but missed a dart to go 7-3 in front, and Van Gerwen came storming back to topple the two-time world champion.

Raymond van Barneveld saw off Robert Thornton 9-8 in a thriller, and will take on reigning champion Phil Taylor in the last eight after 'The Power' surged past Peter Wright 9-3 with an average of over 107.

Former Premier League champion Gary Anderson moved into the quarter-finals with a solid 9-5 win over Jelle Klassen.

Earlier on Saturday, Premier League ace Andy Hamilton overcame Brendan Dolan 9-2 to book his place in the quarter-finals. For the second successive night, Hamilton finished his match in style; after Friday's 158 finish for victory over John Part, the Stoke ace took out 160 in the final leg with Dolan to seal his spot in the next round.

Ian White set up a quarter-final tie with Hamilton with a 9-2 win over Terry Jenkins, while home favourite Justin Pipe advanced following his 9-4 defeat of Jamie Caven. Elsewhere, Wes Newton eased past former world champion Steve Beaton with a comfortable 9-3 victory.
