Taylor to play on opening night of World Championship

Phil Taylor will play on the opening night of the PDC World Darts Championships after the schedule of play for the event at London's Alexandra Palace was confirmed on Tuesday.

'The Power' will play the winner of Rob Szabo or Ian Moss in the first round on December 13. Former world champion John Part will face Mareno Michels in the first match of the tournament.

Michael van Gerwen, who finished runner-up to Taylor in last year's final, takes on the winner of Zoran Lerchbacher and Ben Ward on December 17 while five-time winner Raymond van Barneveld is in action on December 15, along with Dave Chisnall. They face Jamie Lewis and John Henderson respectively.

Two-time champion Adrian Lewis and Denis Smith will play their opening round match on December 18, while previous world finalists Gary Anderson and Andy Hamilton play their respective first round games against Mark Dudbridge and Julio Barbero/Andree Welge on December 17.

James Wade is among the players in action on the final evening of first round matches, due to be played on December 19. The Machine takes on Darren Webster for a place in the second round.
