Lewis: I'll be back next year to regain my crown

Adrian Lewis has vowed to put his whitewash PDC World Championship semi-final defeat to Michael van Gerwen behind him and return to win a third world title in 2015.

Despite outscoring the Dutchman, Lewis suffered a heavy 6-0 loss on the Alexandra Palace stage as he failed to convert his chances when on a double. The two-time champion was clearly devastated with the outcome, but is insisted he will be back to pursue his crown again next year.

"There's not a lot I can say really," Lewis told Sky Sports. "I missed so many doubles early doors and he took his chances out, so fair play to him. I outscored him but I was just missing a double. My tops and my tens have been good all week, but tonight unfortunately wasn't the night.

"It was probably a similar game to me and James Wade [in the quarter-final] - he missed his chances and I went out. But what I'll do now is get back on the practice board and put it behind me.

"Obviously it's still going to hurt me, it always is. But I'm a champion and I'll be back fighting next year. It wasn't my night tonight, but I'll get back on the practice board and show them who's boss next year."

Van Gerwen, who lost in last year's final to Phil Taylor, will play Peter Wright for the £250,000 first prize, meaning a new name will be etched onto the Sid Waddell Trophy after the tournament concludes on New Year's Day.
