Taylor suffers early Dubai exit
Phil Taylor is out of the Dubai Masters after suffering a 10-5 defeat to Peter Wright.
Taylor, who lost to Raymond van Barneveld in the Premier League semi-finals last week, took a 5-4 lead but lost six legs in succession as he exits the tournament at the first stage for the second year in a row.
Newly-crowned Premier League champion Raymond van Barneveld also lost his opening match after the Dutchman was beaten 10-5 by Adrian Lewis.
UK champion Lewis won four of the first five legs, finishing 105 to hold a three-leg advantage. Van Barneveld trailed 9-4 but hit the tournament's highest checkout with a 138 to make it 9-5. Lewis, though, clinched a spot in the last four by finishing off 84.
Reigning Dubai champion Michael van Gerwen edged out James Wade 10-9. Van Gerwen fell 5-3 behind but came storming back to take an 8-5 lead.
Wade finished 94 on double 16 to level at 8-8, but after Van Gerwen went 9-8 in front, Wade hit back to force a deciding leg. However, Van Gerwen ensured he would be in the semi-finals after taking out 63 on double 16.
In the other quarter-final encounter, Dave Chisnall came from 8-7 behind to beat Simon Whitlock 10-8.
