Taylor and Lewis give England whitewash win

Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis got England's bid to retain the World Cup of Darts off to the perfect start with a 5-0 whitewash win over Thailand.

Lewis landed double 16 to claim the opening leg, before Taylor mopped up 25 on double eight as England took a 2-0 lead.

England move three legs clear when Lewis took out double dour with Taylor doing the same to move the pair one leg away from victory.

The 16-time World Champion then sealed the win on double one following a 180 from Lewis.

There was also a 5-2 win for the Netherlands' Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld, who took out Marco Brentegani and Daniele Petri of Italy.

Earlier in the night, Peter Wright and Robert Thornton gave Scotland a 5-1 win over Russia's Evgenii Zhukov and Evgenii Izotov, with Belgium's Kim and Ronny Huybrechts 5-0 winners over India's Amit Gilitwala and Nitan Kumar.

Host nation Germany were knocked out with Jyhan Artut and Andree Welge losing 5-3 to South Africa's Devon Petersen and Graham Filby, while Finnish duo Jarkko Komula and Jani Haavisto were shock 5-4 losers to Poland's Krzysztof Chmielewski and Krzysztof Strozyk.

Japan's Morihiro Hashimoto and Haruki Muramatsu also won in a deciding leg to beat Canada's John Part and Shaun Narain 5-4.

Elsewhere, United States duo Darin Young and Larry Butler won 5-1 against Hungary's Nandor Bezzeg and Zsolt Meszaros, while Antonio Alcinas and Carlos Rodriguez gave Spain a 5-3 victory against the New Zealand pairing of Rob Szabo and Craig Caldwell.
